Translation of De occulta philosophia. This was the ‘book of magic’ from whose ‘instructions’ John Lambert, Thomas Chatterton’s employer, ‘found him sitting up very late at night attempting to raise spirits,’ and which he ‘left behind’ on his flight from Bristol (see E. Meyerstein, A life of Thomas Chatterton. London, 1930, p. 68). See also D.
